What kind of change does this PR introduce?
Fixed a nil-pointer exception in Init function if an invalid instance is passed (via gRPC).

What is the current behavior?
The cli crashes.

What is the new behavior?
The cli returns an "invalid instance error"

It's the case to add tests for this?

I don't think so, it may happen only from gRPC when running as a daemon, we do not have the harness to do an integration test yet.
